The United States vetoed a draft resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC), which recommended granting the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
The US was the only member who voted against the resolution. The rest of the vote in the 15-member Security Council was 12 in favour and two abstentions – the UK and Switzerland.
In response to the US veto, The Palestinian Authority slammed the US veto as “unfair, immoral, and unjustified,” calling it an “aggression” that pushes the region toward instability.
Ambassador Amar Bendjama from Algeria, who introduced the draft, said that failure to act is “a serious and unforgivable mistake and a license for continuing injustice and impunity.”
