After years of fighting, STC joins political coalition with Al-Islah

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), has joined a political coalition along with “Islah Party” and several other Yemeni political parties and components loyal to Saudi-led coalition, Political sources reported on Tuesday.

The sources confirmed that the outcomes of a workshop organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for pro-coalition parties and political components in Aden, including the STC and representatives from Hadhramaut, Shabwah, and Mahrah, resulted in the formation of a preparatory committee to establish a democratic political bloc comprising all Yemeni parties and components loyal to the coalition.

They pointed out that the STC, through a member of its leadership committee and the Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Fadl Al-Jaadi, has become part of this political coalition, which includes the Islah Party and The General People’s Congress (GPC).

The sources also said that the outcomes of the workshop emphasized resolving the southern issue as a fundamental rights issue and a key to addressing all Yemeni issues.

Commenting on the outcomes of the workshop, Fuad Rashid, the head of the Supreme Council of the Revolutionary Movement” residing in Cairo, said that the outcomes of the workshop that lasted for three days, seen as significant political event in Aden, despite his non-participation in the workshop, signaling the STC’s abandonment of its project demanding the return of Yemen to its pre-unity status in May 1990.

The participation of the STC within the political coalition of Yemeni parties and components affiliated with the coalition has sparked widespread anger among activists of the STC on social media platforms, calling for the overthrow of the leader Al-Jaadi from the council’s presidency.

“The STC activists have becomes as having foolishly turned into tools assisting “enemies and opponents and followers of deceit and misinformation, “Al-Jaadi said in a post on his X account, in a response to the call by the pro-STC activist to dismiss him from his post.
