Yemeni fisherman returned after weeks of imprisonment in Eritrea

Around seventeen Yemeni fishermen from Mocah district returned to the city of Al-Khokha in Hodeidah province after weeks of being detained in Eritrean prisons.

A source in the Ministry of Fisheries in the Sana’a government stated that the fishermen arrived on the shores of Al-Khokha amidst a warm welcoming reception from their families and colleagues.

The source pointed out that the fishermen spent weeks in harsh detention conditions in Eritrean prisons, where they were subjected to serious violations by the Eritrean authorities, who went back on their previous commitments to release 45 fishermen, reducing the number to only 17.

The source also highlighted that fishermen in the western coastal areas of Yemen are subjected to repeated violations by the Eritrean navy, which seizes their boats and their catch, and detains them for long periods without justification. He called for putting an end to Eritrean navy violations against Yemeni fishermen.
