Aden Electricity Corporation has placed a burden on the residents of the Al-Tayyarin neighborhood in the Al-Mamdara area of Sheikh Othman district by demanding they collect 90 million Yemeni riyals to install a transformer in their area amidst a complete collapse of the electricity supply.
The residents had submitted a complaint to the so-called “President of the Southern Transitional Council,” Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, and Aden Governor, Lamlas, pleading with them to improve the electricity situation in their area and provide a transformer to regulate the power supply.
According to the complaint, the residents have been suffering for six years, only to be shocked by the requirement to bear the cost of installing the transformer, which amounts to a significant sum of 90 million Yemeni riyals—an amount they cannot afford amidst a catastrophic economic downturn.
The residents held the Electricity Corporation (and the Bin Mubarak government and the STC) responsible for providing and installing the transformer in light of the deadly high temperatures.
