University in Abu Dhabi condemned for banning Palestine solidarity rallies

Many faculty members and students have complained that the administration of New York University Abu Dhabi in the UAE prevented any manifestations of solidarity with Gaza and went so far as to expel an employee and a graduate student.

This came in a press release issued by the American Association of University Professors and shared by faculty and staff at New York University for Justice in Palestine (NYU FSJP), according to the British “Middle East Eye” website.

“The administration of President Linda Mills has silenced faculty and students on the NYU Abu Dhabi campus,” the press release said. “Expressions of solidarity with Palestine have led to severe sanctions by the League and political repression.”

The listed acts include staff, faculty, and students, especially “nationals of non-Western countries, being detained and interrogated in government security offices, based on monitoring of their personal engagements, private email exchanges, and private social media posts.”
