A popular demonstration took place in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition in southern Yemen, on Monday, demanding the expulsion of an official loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The demonstrators who roamed the main streets raised banners demanding the expulsion of the director of Al-Tawahi district, Wajdi Alwan Al-Shaabi, affiliated with the STC, for his mismanagement.
The protesters stressed that the people of Al-Tawahi were not a cheap commodity in the hands of Al-Shaabi, who exploited the region’s resources for his personal benefit, calling on the pro-coalition government to take urgent measures against Al-Shaabi.
Aden and other southern provinces are witnessing an unprecedented deterioration in various basic services, including electricity and water, and rising prices as a result of the ongoing collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies, as the US dollar exchange rate exceeded 1,897 riyals.
