At least 30 killed by torrential floods in Hodeidah

At least 30 people were killed in an initial toll, and five others were missing as a result of the torrential floods caused by heavy rains that hit Hodeidah province in western Yemen during the past hours.

This came in a press statement issued by the Governor of Hodeidah, Mohammed Ayash Quhim, who stated that the torrents also caused damage to citizens’ property and the displacement of residents from more than 500 houses, as well as cutting off roads in several valleys in the province.

The governor pointed out that the torrential rains caused the collapse of a number of homes, leading to the deaths of their residents, while more than seven cars were swept away by the torrents.

He pointed out that the President of the Supreme Political Council in Sana’a, Mahdi Al-Mashat, directed the formation of a committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Hussein Maqbouli to go to the villages and areas affected by the floods to inspect the damage and deliver relief aid to alleviate the suffering of those affected.
