Oil tanker drivers announce strike against taxes imposed by UAE-backed STC

Drivers of transport liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers have announced a total strike due to the taxation points imposed by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions in several provinces under the control of Saudi-led coalition.

The drivers claimed that the levies collected in “Shabwa, Abyan, and Taiz” are illegal and they urgently demanded their cessation, according to a memorandum from the gas company addressed to pro- coalition Oil Minister on Thursday.

The strike comes at a time when southern provinces are experiencing a severe shortage of domestic gas supplies, which will impact households in those areas in the coming days.

The strike is seen as an attempt by the drivers to pressure the factions affiliated with the coalition to stop the illegal levies imposed on them in various regions during gas transportation.
