Local activists have revealed a shocking environmental disaster caused by an oil company in the Huraidhah district of Hadhramaut Governorate.
Activists from Hadhramaut published a video showing that the Calvalley Oil Company in Block 9 has dug several pits in the agricultural lands of local residents to bury hazardous radioactive chemical waste in district, at the bottom of Wadi Amad, in a reckless manner.
They confirmed that the company buried the hazardous waste without any regulations or oversight from local authorities, the ministry of oil in the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition, or relevant environmental protection agencies, posing a risk to the local community by contaminating groundwater.
Activists clarified that the burial operations on the citizens’ lands were carried out under armed protection by the “First Military Region” forces loyal to the Islah party, without any compensation for the affected residents.
They called on the free people of Yemen, Hadhramaut, and environmental activists to stand in solidarity with the local residents, who have been suffering from the oil company’s actions since 2001.
Activists also urged the company’s president, Nabil Hael Saeed, to halt the destruction of the citizens’ lives and the deterioration of their health and environment.
