Saudi Arabia barring Yemen Airways from airspace, in violation of earlier UN agreement

Khalid Al-Shayef, Director of Sana’a International Airport, announced on Thursday that Saudi Arabia has barred Yemen Airways from passing through its airspace. He stated that this action violates the UN agreement announced in late July.

Al-Shayef explained on X that despite the ongoing air blockade on Yemen, Saudi authorities prevented a Yemen Airways flight from Sana’a to Queen Alia International Airport from crossing its airspace. The plane was forced to return to Sana’a despite completing all necessary procedures.

He added that a flight to Amman, coordinated with the Jeddah center, was also prevented. The majority of passengers were sick or in transit, leading to their suffering and losses as they missed connecting flights.

Al-Shayef emphasized that there is no justification for blocking the plane and criticized the Saudi regime for continuing to impose air travel restrictions.

He noted that Saudi actions contradict the recent UN agreement, which allows flights to Jordan and other countries with technical coordination rather than permission or oversight.
