British minister Hamish Falconer: Israel must abide by ICJ measures

Hamish Falconer, UK Minister of State for the Middle East, stated that Israel is obligated to implement the provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Speaking during a session in the UK Parliament on Wednesday, which addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, Falconer called for the immediate lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza. He stressed that Israel’s obstruction of aid deliveries is “horrific.”

“Tons of food supplies are currently left to rot at the Gaza-Israel border while people on the brink of starvation are denied access to them,” Falconer said.

He also noted that Israeli ministers have admitted that aid is being withheld as a “pressure tactic”, describing this approach as cruel and indefensible.

“More Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes overnight,” he added. “This must come to an end.”

Falconer further highlighted the ongoing case brought by South Africa against Israel at the ICJ on charges of genocide, saying: “We support the International Court of Justice and its independence. The court has issued a series of provisional measures in this case, and we support those measures. Israel is obliged to implement them.”
