New round of negotiations between Yemen and Saudi-backed parties in Amman

A new round of direct negotiations between the Yemeni delegation and the Saudi-backed parties commenced on Friday in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Held under the auspices of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the talks aim to address the humanitarian file of prisoners and detainees.

This session focuses on finalizing the lists for an exchange deal involving 2,900 prisoners, as previously agreed upon during the Muscat negotiations last December.

Abdulqader al-Murtadha, head of the Prisoner Affairs Committee, affirmed that his side’s lists are ready, while noting that internal disagreements and delays from the opposing side regarding their lists remain the primary obstacle.

Despite these challenges, international mediators hope this round will secure a definitive breakthrough in the prisoner exchange process.
