The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana’a has warned against attempts to draw certain Arab countries into a direct confrontation with Iran, cautioning that such moves serve the agenda of the United States and the Israeli enemy.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said it had followed the outcome of the ministerial-level meeting of the Arab League Council held on Sunday, which discussed the “Iranian attacks on several Arab countries.”
The ministry stressed that Iran’s targeting of US military bases in several Arab states comes within the framework of its legitimate right to self-defense, a right guaranteed by the Charter of the United Nations as well as international conventions and laws.
According to the statement, the party threatening regional and international peace and security — including the safety of maritime corridors, global energy security, and the freedom of commercial navigation — is the US and Israeli aggression against Iran, not Iran’s exercise of its right to defend itself.
The ministry added that the time has come for Arab states to direct their hostility toward the real enemy, targeting the entire region, represented by “global Zionism and its arms — the American side and the Zionist entity.” It noted that the aggression against Iran aims to empower the Israeli enemy to dominate the region and remove the greatest obstacle to that objective.
Sana’a also called on Arab countries to reconsider the presence of US military bases on their territories and instead rely on their own capabilities to safeguard their security, stability, and territorial integrity. It further urged the activation of joint Arab cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Arab Defense Agreement.
The ministry argued that the Arab League should have condemned the US–Israeli aggression against Iran, as well as the ongoing attacks by the Israeli enemy against Palestine and Lebanon and the recent US aggression against Iraq. It said these acts should be regarded as direct aggression against all member states, warranting collective support for any measures taken in response, including the option of retaliation.
The statement concluded with a warning to Arab governments against being drawn into a US–Israeli plan aimed at pushing some Arab states into a direct military confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
