Saudi airport in Jeddah closed down to air traffic following series of explosions

Saudi authorities have closed down Jeddah International Airport on Saturday, after explosions occurred in the city of Jeddah, west of the kingdom.

Air traffic tracking centers showed Jeddah airport closed to flights and diverting to alternative airports, while activists and local residents confirmed that violent explosions were heard.

These explosions are believed to be caused by retaliation attacks from Yemen.

Moreover, the Saudi Ministry of Defence announced on Saturday morning that the Yemeni army and Popular Committees had attacked the port of Jeddah.

The Saudi Ministry of Defence confirmed the attack, but claimed that the air assault heading towards Jeddah had been intercepted and destroyed.

So far, Yemeni military officials have not yet responded on the matter.
